Forever to Thee, Gamecocks. As we all crawl back to Cola this semester, we have a few things to look forward to, other than classes of course. Columbia, the City of Dreams, that we all call home has turned up the heat and humidity to welcome us back to USC to begin another school year that we’re all looking forward to after summers of working, internships, and hometowns full of parents. I have compiled a short list of the top 5 things for USC students to look forward to this semester, oh and go ‘cocks!

5. Coming home to the #3 best college town in the U.S

Livability.com has just ranked Columbia as the third best college town in the states which is definitely something to brag about. Crediting the small city with job opportunities, high salaries, plenty of entertainment, and affordable living, Columbia is a haven for college students.

4. New apartments

Park Place, 612 Whaley, Greene Crossing, and The Stadium at 5 Points, are all recently built or renovated apartments in Columbia geared towards college living. With close proximity to campus, shuttle services, and clean, new units there are plenty of living options. I must say, we’re pretty spoiled with so many nice, not-too-shambley college apartments.

3. Cleaned-up bars

5 Points is famous (maybe infamous) for its sprawling downtown littered with USC students partying Monday through Saturday nights, and it’s safe to say some of the bars are a bit of a dive. According to Twitter, however, several of the bars have done some renovations and cleaning making the least classy area of Cola a bit more classy.

2. Free Darius Rucker concerts

Darius Rucker has agreed, via Twitter promises confirmed by both the president of the university and Darius Rucker himself, to perform a free concert on the historic horseshoe. There is one condition, this will only happen after the Gamecocks get 6 football wins (see no. 1). Darius is a big Gamecock fan himself, so we will keep our fingers crossed.

1. Hopes of an solid football season

This is a sensitive subject. Our beloved coach of 10 years, Steve Spurrier, departed the team (read: totally f***ing ghosted us) last fall when he began to see the team doing poorly (read: spiraling into L after L). Since this traumatic time, still raw in the hearts of Gamecock fans, he has been replaced with Will Muschamp of University of Florida (head) and Auburn (defensive). A solid coach with a promising background, we have high hopes for a turn around this season as USC’s thousands of students migrate towards the tailgates of William’s Brice Stadium decked out in garnet and black praying for a Gamecock win.
