‘Merica. The birth of our nation on the Fourth of July forged our freedom to barbecue all day, listen to bad country music, watch fireworks, start drinking at 10am, and wear borderline offensive flag bikinis. The fourth, it seems, is the heartbeat of summer. Set in the dead heat of July, spent on a beach or in a backyard partying, swimming, eating, drinking, and red-white-and-blue-ing. My favorite holiday out of the year is coming up, and here I’ve listed the top four reasons why We the People love our patriotic holiday.
4. The Patriotism
Let me repeat myself, ‘MERICA! Americans love America like a bald eagle loves its freedom, and the fourth is our designated day out of the year to rep’ it hard. American pride is strong, and you can tell by the head-to-toe flag outfits and paraphernalia. From the closed businesses and retailers down to the tablecloths and napkins, the Fourth of July was made to relax, celebrate, drink red white and blue drinks, and love our country.
3. The Outfits
Break out your star-spangled speedo. Listen, I know girls [read: basic] that plan their outfit months in advance and search for just the right pair of high-waisted shorts for the occasion. Patriotic clothes are easy to find here int he US of A, and they will be out in full effect this holiday weekend. Whether it be a flag bikini or man jorts and red, white, and blue frat tank, it will be clear to which country we are citizens.
2. The Parties
Whether its a family barbecue or a beach party, you will end up red-white-and-wasted with someone’s crazy uncle playing can-jam and trying not to spill your Budweiser. You will be outside all day with your friends and family celebrating this great nation and the freedom that is gives us to take work off on a Monday to shotgun a beer from a baseball bat and spin around or destroy your cousins in a pong tourney.
1. The Food & Drinks
Burgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, corn, potato salad, watermelon, brownies, wings, beer, slushies, kabobs, sangria, the list continues. You have a full day to eat and drink as much as you want with zero judgement. Everyone is grilling something delicious and I bet you will be faced with a spread of sides, fruit, carbs, and an array of beers and red, white, and blue cocktail creations. Thank you, America, for being born so that I can spend a day in a bikini not counting calories.
Happy Fourth of July!
